Shopping for a Cremation Urn or Pet Urn?

When buying a cremation urn or pet urn you need to know the approximate weight of your loved one or pet before they died. This is how you will determine the size urn you will need.

1 cubic inch is equal to 1 pound of body weight.

So if your loved one weighed 165 pounds when they died you would need to buy an urn that is at least 165 cubic inches. You can buy larger, just not smaller. Unless you plan to divide the ashes. If you want a portion of the ashes and someone else in the family would also like a portion you can buy two urns each being at least 85 cubic inches.

OR maybe one of you only want a very small portion of the ashes, then you would buy a "keepsake urn". Keepsake urns are made to hold a very small portion of the ashes. Some people choose to keep a lock of hair from the loved one and they purchase a keepsake urn to put the lock of hair in.

Some people even use a keepsake urn for something small and memorable from the loved one such as a piece of jewelry, or a good luck charm that the loved one had, or an old coin thay they kept in their jewelry box.

There is always something that was special to the loved one that a family member can keep in a keepsake urn as memorabilia.

You could even take a flower from the memorial and dry it out and keep that in one of the keepsake urns.

The same goes for your pet. If you lost a pet and decide to have them cremated and you need to choose an urn for your pet. You would want to buy an urn equal or greater in size than what your pet weighed.

If your pet weighed 30 pounds you would want to buy a pet urn that is at least 30 cubic inches.

If you only want to keep a small portion of the ashes you can buy a keepsake urn and bury the remainder of the ashes.

The decision is up to you, or you and family members. You all have to decide what you want to do with the ashes of your loved one or pet.

Another choice you have is to purchase cremation jewelry. Cremation jewelry is purchased for a very, very small portion of the ashes.
