In today's tough times, many people cannot afford a traditional burial or cremation provided by funeral homes. We can tell you how to save money. You do not have to choose a traditional burial or cremation.
You can choose a simple cremation, or also known as a direct cremation. A simple or direct cremation includes the transportation of the deceased from the place of death to the crematory where they perform the actual cremation. Your total cost should be no more than $600.
You can file for the death certificates yourself. Cost approximately $25 - $35.
Then you can purchase a UNIQUE wooden urn and really save money. Cost $100 - $250 for a nice wooden urn from Ashes2Urns (www.ashes2urns.com). Beautiful wooden bottle, jar, and football shaped urns. Handcrafted in the U.S.
If you want to hold a memorial service for your loved one and save alot of money, hold the memorial service in your home, or a local church, after the cremation has been done and you have an urn. You can save alot of money that a funeral home would charge you for the memorial service!
The only thing that HAS to be done by the funeral home is the transportation of the deceased, because you have to be a licensed funeral director to legally transport a human corpse. Everything else you CAN do on your own and save a lot of money.
If you don't care about the expense of a traditional burial or cremation, then by all means let the funeral home handle everything. BUT you are going to pay anywhere from $5,000 up to $15,000 in total costs. You have to pay for a burial plot besides the funeral home costs.
My father passed away 2 years ago, his wishes were to be cremated. My fathers girlfriend decided she would also have a memorial service at the funeral home for my father, which my father really did not want, but any way, the total cost when everything was finished was over $6,000. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!!!! We could have done everything for under $1,000.
There was nothing fancy, just a simple cremation and a simple memorial service at the funeral home where my fathers urn and pictures were on display. There was no burial, nothing. The $6,000 was only for the cremation and the service at the funeral home and the urn purchased from the funeral home for $600.
Now here is something, do you know the crematories only charge $250 - $300 for the actual cremation. The rest of that $6,000 goes to the funeral home. AND the funeral homes purchase the cremation urns that they sell to you from overseas, from Turkey, India, or China and they pay on average $30 for a cremation urn that they are going to charge YOU $400 to $1200 for.
It's your choice, spend a little or spend a lot!
